Stickers and Soap

I like to support vendors who are trying to sell products that have a social conscious. I recently attended a Women’s History Conference at Cerritos College and collected a new business card.

The company is called Sticker Sisters and they make fabulous stickers, shoelaces “& other goodies with smarts & spunk”. Check out their website by clicking here. They have great items for feminists and feminists in training. Remember, feminism is not a dirty word. There are several different types of feminism, from women who use sex and their looks to manipulate men, to the woman who feels it is her place to stay at home and obey her husband, to women who think men are the scum of the earth and cannot be trusted. You don’t have to believe all of the above or any of the above to be a feminist.

My other favorite socially conscious business is Lush handmade soaps and cosmetics. The company began in England and is expanding all over the globe. Their business is headquartered in Vancouver Canada for the United States. You can find the store closest to you by using the store locator on the website. If there isn’t a store near you, you can order their products online and have them shipped directly to you. They don’t test on animals and don’t purchase their supplies from vendors who do not follow their own philosophy. This does mean that they cannot offer some products like sunscreen as they cannot get the quality and quantity of ingredients that they want. You can also sign up to receive their bi-monthly newsletter. It’s a good idea as they are constantly adding new products and have seasonal specials. Their Christmas spread is phenomenal.

If you can get to a store, I highly recommend it. The store has a wonderful smell, a mix of all their products that reminds me of an new age bookshop. Let me put it to you this way, it is such a distinct and delicious smell that I was able to locate the Lush store while on vacation in Venice, Italy by scent alone. I smelled the scent and thought, “Boy, that sure smells like Lush,” then turned the corner and saw the shop in front of me.

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and have probably used most if not all of the products. They also like to demonstrate their products in the store. And if you ask nicely, you can get a sample of a product to try before dropping the cash for the product. This is wonderful as some of their products can be a bit pricey. It’s worth it as they are high quality and usually last for a while. I have yet to meet a person who regrets their purchase at Lush. Going into the store makes all the difference. They have a fairly liberal return policy. It is a great place when you want to pamper yourself or someone else. I personally keep a running wish list of Lush products.

Lushies unite! I am such a Lush addict now and I blame you for it completely.

I can't thank you enough. :)
